Jonathan Klug

Dr. Jonathan Klug is a retired United States Army Colonel working at the U.S. Army War College. He was an Armor officer and Army Strategist, and his overseas service included Haiti, Bosnia, Korea, Egypt, Iraq, Germany, and Afghanistan. Jon spent six years of his thirty-year career at the U.S. Army War College, serving as Associate Dean for his last year of active duty. He was an award-winning faculty member teaching military strategy and operational history, and he served as the William F. Halsey Chair of Naval Studies. Jon holds a Ph.D. in History from the University of New Brunswick in Canada. His dissertation examined the role of logistics in the U.S. Navy’s transition to a blue-water navy, which is under contract with the University of Alabama Press’ Maritime Currents series. Jon has written U.S. Army, U.S. Joint, and NATO Joint doctrine on counterinsurgency and security force assistance. Along with writing manuals, articles, monographs, and book chapters, Jon co-edited three volumes: To Boldy Go on science fiction and strategy; Power Up on superheroes and strategy; and Professionals Talk Logistics on logistics and strategy. Jon holds degrees from the U.S. Army School of Advanced Military Studies, Louisiana State University, and the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. An award-winning military history instructor, he taught at the U.S. Air Force Academy and the U.S. Naval Academy. Dr. Klug is an editor for the Army War College’s online journal War Room, a reviewer for the Army War College quarterly journal Parameters, and a member of the editorial advisory panel of Military Strategy Magazine.
